Day 6

 Senior Project | May 14th

This morning, the three of us woke up bright and early to yet another gorgeous Spring day. We had an 8:30am tour to get to so we made sure to get some breakfast (and caffeine) in us before we made our way down to the Admissions office. Once we got down there, we were greeted by a team-full of freshman-age French-Canadian hockey players and their parents. They spoke primarily French and most of their English was quite broken. It was certainly interesting to meet people who speak a different language and enjoy a different culture, yet only come from a few hours away (they said 4 hour drive). There were so many of them we had to split up and each take a group. Trey and Mitchell took a large group of kids, while I took the parents. I also got some help from Nora Flanagan who took some parents as well. I had at least 6 couples with me, all of whom knew each other and were quite friendly and talkative with each other throughout the tour. They were eager to ask questions and very interested to learn more about the school. I enjoyed the opportunity to share with them what I know and what I’ve learned from my experiences. After the tour ended, we spent some more time working on the Admissions Instagram page, making changes and additions based on what Alicia wanted. We hope to share this more publicly with the community soon. At 12:30, Trey and I had to depart for a baseball game, and Mitchell had to do the same soon after for a golf match. We felt as though it was a productive day and we’re excited to get right back to work tomorrow.

 Senior Project | May 9th Today marked the first day of Senior Project 2022. I took the opportunity to sleep in but made it a priority with my partners, Trey and Mitchell, to begin brainstorming and planning events by 10am. We met outside of Rulon, got comfy in our Adirondacks and set to work. Our goal for the morning session was to come up with a number of potential ideas for events that would be both entertaining for the whole Proctor community and financially feasible. Some of our ideas included: a wiffle ball tournament, movie night on the turf, "Stay Afloat" contest, flag football tournament, the revival of Proctor assassins (water guns), ghosts in the graveyard, mini golf, spike ball tournaments, scavenger hunts, and more. We understand that some of these ideas may not be possible for one reason or another, so we hope through sheer abundance of ideas, enough will workout; and we're confident enough will. Weekly Reflection #2

 Senior Project | Weekly Reflection #2 It’s hard to believe we’ve already made it through the second week of Senior Project. This past week has flown by even quicker than the first, mostly, due to the switch we made halfway through last week, transitioning from Student Event Coordinators to Admissions Interns. I’d say so far, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Admissions office and have learned more than we expected we would in such a small matter of time. On Monday, we began the week off by giving a tour to an 8th grader from Aspen, Colorado named Isaac. Isaac was very curious about many different aspects of Proctor and was overflowing with questions for us. This question-answering has become my favorite part of giving tours; being able to talk and answer questions about the community while also sharing what I’ve learned and been taught has been a very reflective experience for me. Weekly Reflection

 Senior Project | Weekly Reflection It’s hard to believe we’ve already been through one whole week of Senior Project. Our project has certainly taken its twists and turns, starting at Student Event Coordination and now, a week later, Admissions interns. This total switch in our project was not random or uncalled for, but instead actually quite necessary in order for my group mates and I to fulfill the requirements of Senior Project. Simply put, our first project did not provide us with enough opportunity to clock in hours. Our original goal was to put on certain events and activities for the whole student body that, hopefully, they would participate in and enjoy. This would get students out of their rooms, and instead, into more active, social environments. This was the plan. However, as we’ve found out, a prep school, given its schedule full of classes, sports, theater, clubs, and many other extracurriculars, does not make for the best setting for this plan.
