Day 13

Senior Project | May 24th  This morning marked our last morning of Senior Project, as we only needed three more hours of work to hit the 55-hour mark. Mitchell and I began the morning where we usually do, at the Dining Hall for breakfast. Once we were done, we went to Admissions office to work on and complete our flyers that we're going to be presenting on our table tomorrow at Express Fest. We were there from around 10:00 - 1:00. We had trouble creating them at first, as we didn't know how exactly to format them, but we figured it out eventually and ended up creating a product we were happy with. We hope to share it with anyone that is interested tomorrow. We hit our hour requirement and feel ready and confident for tomorrow's presentation.  Hours Today: 3 Total Hours: 55

Day 12

Senior Project | May 23rd This morning, Mitchell and I went to breakfast to start the day off right. Then, we all met at assembly to make an announcement regarding Green Key leader results and where to find them. After that, we headed to the Admissions office to work with Alicia on potential display options for our Express Fest presentation. We then broke for lunch around noon. Around 1:00pm, we went back to Admissions and spent time working on creating small flyers that contain all sorts of stats and facts about the school - we’re hoping these could be used at Admissions events if they come out well enough. Since none of us had an after school activity, we spent the rest of the afternoon working on designing new Admissions t-shirts, and finalizing our setup for Wednesday’s presentation. It was a good, productive day.  Hours Today: 5 Total Hours: 52

Weekly Reflection #2

Senior Project | Weekly Reflection #2 It’s hard to believe we’ve already made it through the second week of Senior Project. This past week has flown by even quicker than the first, mostly, due to the switch we made halfway through last week, transitioning from Student Event Coordinators to Admissions Interns. I’d say so far, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Admissions office and have learned more than we expected we would in such a small matter of time. On Monday, we began the week off by giving a tour to an 8th grader from Aspen, Colorado named Isaac. Isaac was very curious about many different aspects of Proctor and was overflowing with questions for us. This question-answering has become my favorite part of giving tours; being able to talk and answer questions about the community while also sharing what I’ve learned and been taught has been a very reflective experience for me. I’ve enjoyed this passing-on of information to kids who have yet to begin their journey here. ...

Day 11

Senior Project | May 20th This morning, Alicia took Mitch, Trey, Nora, and I off campus for breakfast at Tucker’s in New London. The food was great and the Admissions talk even better. We decided to use some of the time to go over Green Key Leader applications and discussed which individuals we thought would fit the role best. There were 31 applications we had to go through and read, many of which were very good. We chose 15 students in total, 5 of which will be off-campus in the fall, so 10 leaders for the start of next school year. Once we got back to campus, we went to the Admissions office to present Alicia with our plans for the end-of-the-year Green Key Party. Once we were done with that, we spent more time working on our Proctor tour guide cheat sheet. We felt as though we got a lot done today and we’re pumped for more to come tomorrow.  Hours Today: 5 Total Hours: 47

Day 10

Senior Project | May 19th This morning, Mitchell and I began the morning by getting up for breakfast so we’d be properly fueled for our day ahead. Afterwards, we continued onto the gym where we got in a brief sweat. We then headed over to Admissions to meet with Alicia who had just returned from her trip. She introduced us to neuropsychological evaluations and explained to us how to read them in the context of a learning profile she might receive. Because of the prominent learning skills program at Proctor, the Admissions department deals with these profiles often and must have a solid understanding of how they affect a student’s transcript, application, and overall learning experience. It was interesting to learn more about this specific aspect of Proctor Admissions. We also discussed acceptances (what weighs into them), reading transcripts, and teacher recommendations. It was a productive day and we learned a lot. More tomorrow.  Hours Today: 5 Total Hours: 42

Day 9

Senior Project | May 18th This morning, the three of us got a little bit of a sleep in as our first commitment of the day was a 10:00 tour. I woke up around 9:15, showered and ate, and then headed down to Admissions with Mitch and Trey. The tour went well. It was an incoming student who hadn’t seen campus yet so it was nice to show him around for the first time. We finished up around 11:30 and then got a quick bite to eat for lunch. After lunch, we had around an hour before Trey and I had to be on Carr field for our game warmups so we spent that time working on new Admissions brochures; changing designs, wording, placement of information, etc. After afternoon games, we had a little bit more time before I had to head to Shrek rehearsal so we organized our plans for the Green Key Party and began creating a proposal for Alicia. It was an action-packed day, for sure. More tomorrow.  Hours Today: 4 Total Hours: 36

Day 8

Senior Project | May 17th Today, we started the day off right by going to the Dining Hall for a nice breakfast, and then headed to the gym for a brief workout afterwards. At around 10:00am, we headed down to the Admissions Office where Alicia put us to work on some incoming student outreach projects. We worked on creating a Google Form on which incoming students can present introductory information for themselves and through it hopefully meet other incoming students. We wrapped that up around noon and then grabbed a quick lunch at the Dining Hall. Then, at 1:00pm, we gave a tour that lasted until around 2:30pm. After that, we had a call with Alicia and discussed the end-of-the-year Green Key Party. The three of us spent another 30-45 minutes planning and brainstorming ideas for that nearing event. It was a busy day and we feel we got a lot done. More to come tomorrow.  Hours Today: 5 Total Hours: 32
